Cloud-based infrastructure-services provider GoGrid has teamed up with IBM to offer software companies a way to provide their Hadoop-based analytics applications in the cloud, using the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) or provide infrastructure platform for customers to deploy their own applications on based on the Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) model.

The offering empowers software vendors to broaden their market opportunities by using GoGrid’s infrastructure platform to serve their software to customers or provide platform services on a subscription basis instead of designing and building out their own data center infrastructure that can do that.

Bruce Weed, program director of global business development at IBM, said current challenges in “Big Data” require cutting-edge software and infrastructure.

“GoGrid's automated cloud infrastructure platform and IBM's Big Data software work together to let businesses build software-as-a-service and platform-as-a-service (PaaS) applications to address their need to analyze vast amounts of information,” Weed said.

Two IBM products give these new capabilities to GoGrid customers: InfoSphere BigInsights and InfoSphere Streams. Both are software platforms for unstructured-data analytics, IBM is licensing to GoGrid.

GiGrid is now offering server images packaged with BigInsights and Streams on its data center infrastructure as a service. GoGrid infrastructure lives in Equinix data centers in the US and Europe.

These are not the first IBM software products GoGrid has made available on its platform. There are three more: DB2 (database), Informix (database) and InfoSphere Traceability Server (product tracing).
