A Broomfield, Colo.-based data center efficiency solutions provider has launched a new free online tool for quantifying the amount of cost savings data center operators will gain through their efforts to increase energy efficiency can bring them.

On the input end 42U's Data Center Energy Savings Calculator takes location (U.S. state), energy cost, IT load, current PUE level and target PUE level and on the result end provides the number of KW of power saved, cost of that power, the number of tons of CO2 emissions avoided and how many cars it takes to emit that amount of CO2.

Users can input both PUE and DCiE figures.

"In today's economy, data center professionals need accurate data to justify projects to upper management," 42U's Director of Sales Steve Lewis said in a statement. "Our calculator provides the starting point for those conversations and shows that efficiency improvements have a substantial payback."
