Founder Group has been selected as the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor for a 100MW solar farm in Tanjung Malim, Malaysia. The solar plant will supply energy to an AI data center in Enstek City.

The conditional letter of award is valued at approximately $68 million.

Hexatoff Group is developing the data center and will receive energy through a long-term supply agreement. Details on the supply agreement were not available.

Hexatoff is a turnkey solutions provider specializing in infrastructure and building construction. It was founded in 2018 and works across various construction areas, including digital infrastructure.

“Our collaboration with Hexatoff Group, a recognized leader in infrastructure solutions, underscores our dedication to driving innovation and sustainability in the energy sector while contributing to Malaysia’s aspirations as a hub for advanced AI and digital infrastructure,” said Lee Seng Chi, CEO of Founder Group.

The award is conditional, indicating that the project may face uncertainties or additional requirements that could affect its implementation.

Last week, Hexatoff signed a $24m partnership with VCI through its subsidiary V-Gallant to provide equipment for the center.

Under the agreement, V-Gallant has been selected to supply AI hardware and software solutions featuring 640 units of Nvidia H200 Tensor Core GPUs. The deployment will support the first phase of the data center's development.

No further details were available on the data center and the solar farm. DCD has contacted both companies requesting additional information.

Solar developers in Malaysia are increasingly looking at data center firms as offtakers for their projects.

Last month, STMicroelectronics and Engie signed a 21-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 50GWh of energy annually from a new solar farm in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah, Malaysia.

Before this, in February, GDS signed a 21-year PPA with Cenergi SEA Berhad for 22.5MWac of renewable power for its Nusajaya Tech Park (NTP) data center campus in Johor.
