Ruberg was appointed CEO of Interxion (stylized InterXion) in 2007 after being company chairman for five years. He led the European colocation company until 2020 when Interxion combined with Digital Realty and became EMEA CEO for the combined company.

Prior to Interxion, Ruberg served as CEO of Intermedia Communications and held positions at companies including Data General and AT&T.

Digital Realty is yet to comment, but company subsidiary iColo posted: “David Ruberg was an unyielding perfectionist who along with the many things he touched, sparked the fire that is now iColo! We will remember your advice, mentorship, and friendship as we march forward!”

Apostolos Kakkos, founder and former CEO Lamda Hellix, another colo provider acquired by Digital Realty, praised Ruberg’s “business acumen, his deep knowledge of the sector, and both his high IQ and EQ.”

“Needless to say that his views, his wisdom, his tireless focus towards the future, his attention to details, and his vivacity made me not only a better entrepreneur but in fact a better human being and his friend,” he said.

Josh Joshi, AtlasEdge executive chairman, and former Interxion CFO, said: “We lost one of the digital infrastructure industry titans last night. A true hall of fame candidate if our industry ever had one.”

DCD sends its condolences to Ruberg’s friends and family.
