IT managed services advisor FNTS has launched a cloud for high-performance computing (HPC).

Revealed by the company this week, the cloud platform is housed at FNTS' US-based data center and is based on IBM Power technology.

According to FNTS, the cloud has been designed for industries including manufacturing, healthcare, financial services, and government.

The IBM Power Infrastructure provides "massive memory bandwidth and thread count, optimized for AI and compute-heavy workloads," said FNTS.

The offering is available as-a-service or in colocation, hybrid, or on-prem model.

“FNTS Cloud for HPC brings together our deep experience in mission-critical infrastructure management with modern capabilities that drive innovation, streamline operations, and minimize data center footprints,” said FNTS president Kim Whittaker. “This platform empowers our clients to unlock the full potential of AI, advanced modeling, and simulation workloads with fewer, more capable servers that are efficient and sustainable.”

“IBM Power is ideally suited for HPC workloads that require secure, high-speed compute and large memory pools that can scale on demand,” added Keith Zblewski, FNTS’s manager of IBM Business Development and Offerings. “FNTS is creating a powerful new offering for clients to harness these capabilities in a secure, managed cloud environment purpose-built for HPC.”

IBM Power is a family of servers offered by IBM. The company recently launched its latest generation of Power servers - Power11. The generation encompasses high-end, mid-range, and entry servers – the E1180, E1150, S1124, and S1122 –as well as IBM Power Virtual Server in IBM Cloud, and will be the first IBM Power server to support the company’s Spyre AI chip.

FNTS has not shared which generation of IBM Power hardware it is using, nor which specific server model the HPC cloud will be based on, though with the latest generation only set to be generally available later this month, it seems unlikely to be Power11 servers. Update - FNTS uses server models based on IBM Power9 and Power10.

FNTS is headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. It operates one data center in Omaha. According to DataCenters.com, it is a 4MW facility with 61,000 sq ft of colocation space.
