Philippines telecommunications company Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) has opened a second data center in the Metro Manila region, at Subic Bay Freeport.
The opening follows the launch of its first Vitro data center in Pasig City, Metro Manila, in April this year.
VITRO Data Center Subic delivers end-to-end IT infrastructure solutions for large corporations as well as backup and business continuity, with high capacity worldwide connectivity using PLDT’s networks.
PLDT’s first colocation data center became the first in the Philippines to achieve ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System and ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System accreditation and is also ISO 27001:2005 Information Security Management System certified.
PLDT did not provide details on its second Subic Vitro data center but said it will be used to offer full management and telco services for colocation, hosting, network management and disaster recovery and will use high-end systems for power supply, cooling, fire protection and monitoring.
PLDT is the largest telecommunications company in the Philippines and in 2011 was ranked the 1297th largest company in the world on the Forbes Global 2000 list.
Nippon Telegraph and Telephone, Fidelity Investments and First Pacific all own shares in the company.
Through Vitro, the company operates the Vitro Internet Exchange, a local peering platform for content providers and gaming clients.
The Virto data center has been built to Seismic Zone 4 compliance and uses a 2N+1 Uninterruptible Power Supply system.
