US data center services provider FiberMedia has completed fitting out two new data centers in the New York metropolitan area, bringing its total data center footprint in the region to more than 130,000 sq ft.

One of the new facilities is a 35,000-sq-ft data center located in Secaucus, New Jersey. The second one is a 45,000-sq-ft facility located on a former campus of Reader's Digest magazine in Chappaqua, New York.

FiberMedia provides carrier-neutal colocation space, as well as managed services and Infrastructure-as-a-Service. Its other data centers are located in Jersey City, New Jersey, Brooklyn, New York, New York City and Cleveland, Ohio.

New York metro is one of the hottest data center markets in the US, due to the high concentration of enterprise headquarters, financial services firms and dense network infrastructure.

As of December 2010, there was about 26MW of data center capacity either available or expected to come online by the end of 2011 in northern New Jersey, according to real estate advisory Grubb &Ellis. In Manhattan (New York City proper) data center capacity has been in short supply, especially high-quality data center space.
