The chief financial officer of Fermi Inc has departed, just days after the CEO suddenly stepped down.

Miles Everson has resigned as the Texas data center firm's CFO, but at the same time has been elected as a board director. The company said that it is in negotiations with a candidate to serve as interim CFO.

The departure follows the resignation of Fermi CEO and co-founder Toby Neugebauer late last week. He remains a member of the board.

Lead independent board director Marius Haas has been named chairman of the board.

The company has also formed a new Office of the CEO as part of what the company calls 'Fermi 2.0.' It will feature Jacobo Ortiz Blanes, previously chief operating officer, and Anna Bofa, previously a board advisor, who will assume day-to-day management alongside Haas.

"The Office of the CEO is designed to provide stable, experienced leadership during this important transition," said Haas. "Jacobo and Anna each bring critical strengths that will help us maintain operational excellence, deepen our partnerships, and keep our clients and tenants at the center of everything we do."

Co-founded by former US Energy Secretary Rick Perry, Fermi plans to develop an AI campus in Amarillo, Texas, that could scale to 11GW.

Despite not having substantially developed any of the land it leased from the Texas Tech University System, having no contracted customers, and having no clear experience in the data center industry, the company went public last October.

At the time, the company hit a valuation of around $15bn. Shares have fallen by more than 85 percent since, including 21 percent today (April 20).
