Fermi America has signed another partnership to support the development of its planned 11GW HyperGrid AI mega campus in Amarillo, Texas.

In the latest deal, Fermi inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Doosan Enerbility, a South Korean nuclear power plant component manufacturer.

"Having worked with Doosan for many years, I have seen firsthand their unmatched expertise and ability to deliver on complex projects. I have complete trust in their capability to help us realize our vision at Fermi America," said Mesut Uzman, chief nuclear commercial officer of Fermi America.

The MoU sets the parameters for collaboration on the development of both large-scale commercial nuclear plants and small modular reactor technologies at the Amarillo site.

"We believe this relationship, based in mutual respect, will prove beneficial to both our company as well as Fermi America, and we look forward to broad business collaboration in the days to come," added Jongdoo Kim, president of Doosan Enerbility. "We have a strong track record of successful nuclear projects with Mesut Uzman and are pleased to partner with him again on this exciting project."

Announced back in June, the HyperGrid AI campus will reportedly include “18 million sq ft (1.67 million sqm) of data centers and generate up to 11GW of IT capacity from natural gas, solar, wind, and clean nuclear energy.”

In July, the company acquired more than 600MW of natural gas generation across two deals. Following this, the company signed an MoU with Hyundai to deliver nuclear power to the project.

Most recently, Fermi partnered with nuclear developer Westinghouse to finalize the Combined Operating License Application (COLA) to deploy four AP1000 reactors at the HyperGrid campus. The AP1000 is an advanced Generation III+ Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR). Each reactor has a net electrical output of approximately 1,100MWe to 1,117MWe.

Fermi, co-founded by former Texas governor and US Energy Secretary, Rick Perry, has begun geotechnical work on its planned campus, which aims to provide 1GW of power by late 2026. The company has not yet disclosed how it intends to finance the project, which is expected to require an investment of tens of billions of dollars.

Doosan Enerbility is a heavy industrial company based in Changwon, South Korea. It is the largest global supplier of nuclear power plant components. Earlier this week, the company, alongside Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, partnered with Amazon and X-energy to support the deployment of more than 5GW of nuclear capacity across the US by 2039.
