Fanara has been a frequent speaker at DatacenterDynamics events internationally

Andrew Fanara, the human face of the US Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star program for the data center industry, is leaving the agency to work in the private sector.

Fanara will be joining OSIsoft, the San Leandro, Calif.-based developer of a system for gathering and management of data across the enterprise infrastructure, including data centers, according to a post by Dave Ohara on his Green M3 blog.

At OSI, Fanara will be involved with the company's corporate sustainability programs.

Also, the knowledge and professional network he has gathered during the time spent working with the data center industry are sure to be of great benefit to OSI, which places a lot of focus on selling into the data center space.

Fanara did not return a phone call seeking comment in time for publication.

While at the EPA, Fanara has acted a lot like the Energy Star program's ambassador to the data center industry, speaking frequently at industry events, including regular presentations at DatacenterDynamics conferences around the world.

The agency has done a lot of work to adopt its famous system for rating product and building energy efficiency level to data centers and equipment inside of them.

The last such rating to roll out was Enery Star for servers.

A rating for data centers is expected to be released in June.

Also in the works are efficiency ratings for storage equipment and for UPS systems.
