The man credited with Facebook’s data center evoloution, Jonathan Heiliger, is leaving the company, according to well known technology industry blogger Om Malik.

 

A further report by Datacenter Knowledge said Heiliger will instead move on to his own projects – his background has been as an entrepreneur and Facebook said this is where he is returning following his departure this US summer.

 

Heiliger is VP of technical operations at Facebook – he oversees the social media site’s global infrastructure and internal technology systems, which have moved from colocation to large self-owned operations in a matter of years.

 

Before joining Facebook in 2007 he worked as a technology advisor for start-ups connected to Index Ventures and Sequoia Capital and led the engineering team at Walmart.com, where he built scalable systems.

 

Malik reported on his Gigaom blog on 3 May that Heiliger’s role would be taken over by Jay Parikh, who will report to Mike Schroepfer, VP for engineering. 

Parikh used to work for social networking site Ning where he worked as a SVP leading product development engineering and operations. Before this he was a VP of engineering at Akamai Technologies.
