At the beginning of December 2006, EYP Mission Critical Facilities announced it had joined HP's newly established Data Center Solution Builder (DCSB) program as a premier partner. The program combines the world's leading architecture, engineering, equipment, technology, utility, real estate and service companies to accelerate adoption of energy efficiency solutions for nextgeneration data centers. EYP MCF, a global consulting engineering firm, works with many of the world's leading IT, technology, and internet providers offering its expertise to all mechanical, electrical, operational and infrastructure-related challenges in order to meet clients' need for 24/7 operational continuity.
As the first major initiative of its DCSB program, HP is bridging the gap between facilities and IT to reduce customers' data center operating costs by delivering a new energy-efficiency management system called HP Dynamic Smart Cooling (DSC). The system is designed to provide a 20 to 45 percent savings in cooling energy costs while keeping net power costs constant. DSC uses thermal management software residing in an intelligent control node to continuously adjust air conditioning settings based on real-time air-temperature measurements from a network of sensors deployed on IT racks. DSC actively manages the environment to deliver cooling where it is needed most, enabling essential cost savings to end-users.
"Dynamic Smart Cooling solves a big problem the IT industry has been struggling with for quite some time, said Peter Gross, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Technology Officer of EYP Mission Critical Facilities. "DSC not only dramatically improves the energy performance of cooling systems in data centers but also delivers improvements in overall data center reliability. It is the first step toward the ultimate goal of this industry - fully integrated and optimized data centers that bridge the gap between facilities and IT domains. Gross concluded.
Due to its positive impact on the bottom line and the environment, DSC will be adopted by HP's own IT organization for its six new consolidated data centers, in which EYP MCF is also involved.
