Colocation and hosting services provider Expedient announced a plan to expand one of its two Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, data centers, a project that will nearly double the amount of raised floor at the site.
Once the expansion is complete, the data center will offer a total of 18,000 sq ft of data center space. This is the company’s third inventory expansion in Pittsburgh since 2008.
Shawn McGorry, the company’s president and COO, said, “We are pleased with the accelerating demand for our private cloud and colocation services in the Pittsburgh market and we look forward to the opportunities that our expansion projects will provide to our current and future customers.”
The project is currently in the “engineering-study” phase. The company is also purchasing components with long lead times to add the 8,000 sq ft of floor space.
On the infrastructure side, once the expansion is complete, the data center will have 2.2MW of backup-generator capacity, four UPS systems and 500 ton s of cooling.
The company operates data centers in six cities, including Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Columbus, Baltimore and Boston.
As do most other companies that offer a combination of colocation and hosting, Expedient has a cloud-infrastructure offering. The company uses special pods to support this service, each pod carrying more than 3,000GB of memory that can be allocated to customers in 1GB increments.
