Annual spending on data centers in Europe is up 8.3 percent, according to new research. Among the countries of Europe, the UK has a small lead over Germany.
The UK accounted for 24 percent of the $63.3 billion (€56.1bn) spent on data center equipment and software in the region in the quarter, with Germany only a couple of percentage points behind, and France in third place, according to the EU Data Center Quarterly IT Tracker for Q1 2015, published by DatacenterDynamics Intelligence (DCDi).
Currency fluctuations
The growth is creditable, as the quarter was a tough one due to currency worries, according to the report’s author Martin Hingley of IT Candor. The Euro declined by 22 percent and the pound by nine percent against the dollar, forcing American firms to make price cuts.
Among the components of data centers, infrastructure software made the biggest part, at 37 percent of the total, with hardware making up half the spend.
The report digs into the characteristics of different market revealing that Germany spends more on storage than the rest, and the UK spends comparatively less on storage.
It also analyzes the shares taken by tech vendors within each country and in the market as a whole.
