Estonian telcos Elisa Eesti AS, Tele2 Eesti AS, and Telia Eesti AS have all won competitive tenders to provide 5G services in the frequency band 694 - 790MHz.
ERR News reports that each operator won two 5MHz frequency licenses, as confirmed by the Consumer Protection and Technical Supervision Agency (TTJA), which organized the tenders.
Elisa spent the most amount of money on the frequency, putting in €2.1 million ($2.2m), while Telia spent €2.01m ($2.09m), with Tele2 investing exactly €2m ($2.08m).
According to ERR, the reserve price of one license was €1 million ($1.04m), while the auction started on November 8 and lasted three rounds.
Tele2 became the first Estonia, mobile operator, to launch 5G services in the country earlier this year when the company launched commercial 5G services in parts of the country's capital, Tallinn.
As part of the agreements at the latest spectrum auctions, all three operators must provide 5G services with at least 50 percent coverage in each Estonia county within two years of issue, and within four years the coverage must be 95 percent per county. There are, however, exceptions to this, with those counties nearest to the Russian border, namely Ida-Viru, Jõgeva, Tartu, Põlva, and Võru counties, as restrictions are in place.
