Interxion Holding, one of Europe's largest providers of data center colocation services, has won a contract with Aquis Exchange for space at its City of London data center campus. This will be the pan-European equities trading exchange's second data center.
Aquis Exchange was formed in 2012 to operate an equities exchange as well as to develop exchange software. The company, which is currently going through the regulatory approval process, plans to offer equities from several markets for trading, including France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden and the UK.
The Interxion site will serve as back-up for the exchange's current operation, also located in London. Being in this facility gives Aquis access to the fincial community colocated there, consisting of more than 100 capital markets participants including investment firms, high-frequency trading firms, hedge funds, brokers and bankers.
Commenting on the deal, Aquis CEO Alasdair Haynes said, “We are pleased to announce that our secondary data center is at Interxion’s London campus, which has a long and established heritage of providing colocation services to the financial industry. We are looking forward to the prospect of being able to deliver our services to their ever-expanding financial community.”
Doug Loewe, Interxion's managing director in the UK, said the deal was evidence of the strength of the company's financial community in London. “This will be a perfect addition to the platforms we currently have, and it reinforces our already strong play in equities trading.”
