Earlier this week data center monitoring technology provider Monolith Software announced a significant addition to its client base. Global colocation giant Equinix will be using the company's network monitoring platform at all 19 of its Internet Business Exchange data centers in Europe.

Monolith President and CEO Jeff Parker said the deal would provide greater visibility for Monolith because of Equinix's size and reputation in the industry. "Equinix is one of those bellwether technology companies," he said. Many industry players pay attention to the company's moves.

Equinix signed on to use Monolith to standardize monitoring of network operations at its facilities in France, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland and UK. Monolith said in a statement that such standardization would assist its new client in ensuring consistent delivery of services to customers across its entire European operation.

"To help achieve this (consistency), we wanted to standardize on a single network monitoring solution capable of ensuring the reliability of all our European network services," said Andy Castle, vice president of IT for Equinix in Europe, in a statement. "Monolith was able to meet all of our requirements and since deploying Monolith, we have been satisfied with its flexibility and scalability."

The company began deploying Monolith solutions in its U.S. data centers within the past two months, Parker said.

Monolith's other most notable customers are Oracle, USA Mobility, Cypress Communications and BioWare, a division of Electronic Arts. Its main competitors are IBM, HP, EMC and CA.
