Equinix named a new President for North America and a new chief sales officer yesterday, and announced it has signed a deal with cloud communications and computing solutions provider telecom 8x8 for colocation and interconnection services at its International Business Exchange in Virginia.

Charles Meyers will now head Equinix's North American operations, the position previously held by Peter Ferris who steps in the new global sales role ÔÇô appointments made as part of a wider management shiftm according to Equinix, which will give it more global breadth.

Meanwhile, 8x8 is using Equinix for its Washington DC, which expands its data centers to five. ÔÇô Silicon Valley, New York City, Washington DC and Virginia.

The DC6 IBX data center has access to more than 190 networks.

8x8 has a number of federal government client which is why Washington was provided for its most current data center.

Equnix has 90 International Business Exchange and partner data centers in Asia Pacific, North America and Europe. It recently announced plants to build its third international business exchange in Tokyo, Japan and the4 building of its HK2 IBX in Hong Kong.
