Finnish developer Enetron Park has announced approval of its zoning initiative for a data center in Pyhäjoki, Finland, despite local government stating the opposite.
In an announcement on its website, Enetron announced the 250MW project and its approval, with constructions work set to begin in early 2028. Information about the data center had previously been undisclosed.
However, according to minutes from Pyhäjoki municipality’s local government board meeting, planning for the project was rejected in a 5-2 vote.
The government said the project was for a data center and energy campus, and that there was no general or local plan for the project area.
Based on comments from Enetron Park park manager Jarmo Keto, local media says the project will likely not go forward in Pyhäjoki.
Pyhäjoki is a municipality on the Finnish west coast in the Northern Ostrobothnia region. Damac's Hyperco is also planning a facility in the area.
In September, Finnish cloud company Verda (Verda Cloud) detailed plans for a data center project in the Hanhela area of Pyhäjoki municipality.
DCD has contacted representatives from Enetron Park and Pyhäjoki municipality for comment and clarification.
