US energy storage firm Fluence has signed two master supply agreements (MSA) with “major” hyperscale data centers, according to its latest earnings call.
The deals will see Fluence act as the qualified supplier for the two unnamed hyperscalers. The first order is expected in Q3 of this year, and reflects the firm's focus on the market as a crucial offtaker for its technology.
“These MSAs established Fluence as a qualified supplier, positioning us to build on expected near-term data center projects for both hyperscalers,” said Julian Jose Marquez, CEO, Fluence.
Fluence sells an integrated stack of grid-scale battery storage hardware and the software to run it, with products ranging from utility-scale systems to AI-driven bidding software that optimizes revenues across more than 13.3GW of assets under management.
In the earnings report, the company reported that its order pipeline from the data center market increased 30 percent since Q1, with around 12GWh of contracted capacity.
Marquez said that the company expects “data center projects to make an increasing contribution to order intake during the fourth quarter of this year, building on the initial order we expect in the next few weeks.”
The company also touted the development of a proprietary solution to handle extreme fluctuations in power usage in data centers.
Fluence has partnered with several data center firms over recent years. For example, in 2022, the company was selected by Google to install a 2.75MW battery system to replace some diesel capacity at its St. Ghislain, Belgium data center.
