Emulex announced support for HP's StorageWorks 6400 and 8400 Enterprise Virtual Arrays (EVAs), running Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, HP-UX 11i and Linux operating systems, said its host bus adapters are supported in Microsoft System Centre and announced third quarter loss of $5.9 million.

"As customers virtualise their data centres they want to improve the performance of their SAN infrastructure while lowering overall costs," said Bob Wilson, vice president, Storage Platforms Group, HP. "The combination of Emulex's LightPulse HBAs and HP's new EVAs ensures customers have superior scalability, greater efficiency and enterprise-class connectivity in their data centre environments."

Emulex' loss compared to a net income of $15.52m, for the same period in 2008. Third quarter revenues declined to $78.57m, from $127.85m in the same quarter of fiscal 2008. For the nine months month period ended March 29 net income was $12.05m, or $0.15 per diluted share, compared with $43.34m. Revenues for the first nine months of fiscal 2009 declined to $298.92m from $375.54m.

Jim McCluney, president and CEO of Emulex, said: "Although the third quarter started off slower than we would have liked, I'm very pleased with our overall execution during the March quarter. In addition to meeting our revenue and earnings targets, our focus on controllable expenses and maintaining a strong balance sheet resulted in lower inventories, lower accounts receivables and an increase in our cash balances by over $17 million during the quarter."

Emulex is currently the subject of a hostile takeover bid by Broadcom
