i/o Data Centers and Empire Power Systems, the Caterpillar distributor for Arizona, Southeast California and Northern Mexico, have announced an arrangement that will ensure i/o Data Centers reliable back-up power for the build out of state-of-the-art data centers. Under this agreement, Empire Power Systems will supply Caterpillar back-up power generation products to i/o data centers. Scheduled for 2008, i/o Data Centers' Scottsdale ONE data center facility will have 16MW of back up power supplied by Caterpillar.
"We appreciate the efforts of i/o Data Centers to bring value to their clients. They certainly didn't take a traditional approach to their power needs," states Brett Burns, general manager at Empire Power Systems. "The management of the company had prior experience in operating data centers. As a result they were very involved in the selection process for each section of the power system, and made an 'all things considered' decision on each component. The very nature of stand-by power isn't something that you want to outsource to the lowest bidder."
