The managing director of Emersion Network Power in Singapore told ZDNet Asia that data center managers there were "risk-averse and apprehensive about change" when it came to decisions in the data center. He also said that outlook would have to change if data center managers there wanted to overcome rising power and cooling costs.

Ross Hammond said that revamping the data center would bring far greater change than investment in cooling and power technologies. He said that in one case, a global bank in Singapore had placed a moratorium on blade purchases until Emersion and another vendor convinced the bank its IT infrastructure required a serious "revamp" to bring down costs. New legacy server racks and blades have since been installed.

The release of new technologies could, however, lead to Singapore's data center operators being convinced of the benefit of change, with some being left with no choice but to adopt, according to Hammond.

"Most new technologies are created in the US and implemented in the offices there before being deployed in other regions. Singapore will receive these new technologies whether it is ready or not,"Hammond told ZDNet Asia.

Hammond was speaking to ZDNet about cooling solutions offered by Emersion that look at the data center holistically. "[Emerson's cooling technologies are for] companies that are at their maximum datacenter compute capacity, but [which] need to buy time to plan out their roadmap for revamping the data center,"Hammond said.
