Emerson Network Power announced that 11 models of its Liebert GXT3 uninterruptible power supply (UPS) earned Energy Star Version 1.0 qualification from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

David Sonner, VP of marketing for North America at Emerson, said the Energy Star program for UPS helped customers make informed decisions when buying these systems. “The US Environmental Protection Agency has worked closely with the IT industry to identify ways in which energy efficiency can be measured, documented and implemented in data centers.”

To qualify for the award, which was first instituted by the U.S. EPA in 2012, the Liebert GXT3 was subjected to testing by a UPS-specific certification body, and was examined based on average power, efficiency and efficiency variation for determination of steady-state, Emerson said. UPS products meeting the requirements of the EPA program use an average of 35% less energy than their standard counterparts.

The qualified models include: 120V input 700, 1000, 1500, 2000 and 3000 VA models; 208V input 3000, 6000VA models; and 120/208V input 5000, 6000, 8000 and 10000VA models .

The systems provide continuous uptime for the connected equipment, with capacity and battery backup delivered in cabinets that use 2U to 6U of rack space.

All 11 models of the Liebert GXT3 are available across North America. The company's Liebert APM UPS products got the certification in October 2012.
