Emerson Network Power delivered the first of 10 modular data centers under its contract with NBN Co, the government-run organization tasked with delivering the National Broadband Network in Australia, iTnews reported.

As a whole, the network will include 121 points of interconnect, 10 of which will be delivered by Emerson under a contract is signed with NBN in July 2011, according to the Australian technology-news organization.

Contract for the pre-fabricated data centers is worth more than $100m. Each facility includes Emerson power systems, Liebert precision-cooling systems and SmartAisle optimization products and its SiteScan infrastructure monitoring and management – all Emerson brands.

David Scott, managing director of Emerson’s Australian unit, said the future network would give Australia a competitive edge in the international markets.

“It’s not just about bandwidth, the facilities centres will house systems and information that need to offer levels of energy efficiency, reliability and management functionality to enable NBN Co keep the network operational and deliver on its promises to the Australian community,” he said.

The data centers Emerson is delivering for NBN are going to be located in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane – two in each city. The first one was delivered to Melbourne.

Emerson told iTnews that the facility was delivered ahead of schedule: twice as fast as estimated initially. The company is working with sub-contractors Silcar and Greenbox to deliver the rest of the data centers in less than one year from now.
