Emerson Network Power, a manufacturer of a wide variety of data center infrastructure solutions, has completed its acquisition of Avocent, a Huntsville-Ala.-based maker of KVM switches. The company is expected to be integrated with the buyer's Liebert business, integrating Avocent products with Liebert's existing infrastructure, monitoring and management solutions.

"This addition allows us to combine physical infrastructure and IT device knowledge to give Emerson Network Power the most comprehensive infrastructure management solution on the market and a set of capabilities previously unavailable from any single source," Ed Feeney, Emerson EVP and Emerson Network Power business leader, said in a statement.

"Combining Avocent's technologies with our own data center power, cooling and infrastructure management solutions will allow us to help our customers better manage reliability, availability and lifecycle costs through a simple yet comprehensive view of the complete data center physical infrastructure."

The deal was originally announced in October, when the Avocent board of directors voted in favor of accepting Emerson's tender offer to buy the company for a total of about $1.2 billion, or $25 per share. The closing announcement came ahead of schedule, with the buyer originally expecting to complete the transaction in January 2010.
