Data-storage giant EMC has bought storage and cloud automation company iWave Software for an undisclosed sum, CRN reported.

EMC did not make an official announcement of the deal, but CRN said an EMC spokesperson confirmed it. The company does not formally announce every acquisition, the spokesperson said.

In an open letter posted on the front page of its website, iWave CEO Brent Rhymes announced that his company was now part of EMC, with which it had collaborated over several years. He attributed much of the success iWave had in storage automation to this partnership.

“Now, as part of EMC, iWave is poised for some truly exciting and exponential growth in what is becoming one of the hottest storage software capabilities,” Rhymes wrote.

The company’s flagship product is called the Storage Automator. It enables users to provision, remove and extend block storage for Linux, VMware ESX servers and VMware clusters.

It also features automated storage selection for different applications or hosts. The applications include Oracle, Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft SQL Server.

The company has been supporting storage arrayts from Dell, EMC and NetApp and SAN switches from Brocade and Cisco. The CEO did not say in his announcement whether it will continue support for EMC’s competitors.
