Elsevier, a world-leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, has installed Aperture’s market-leading data center management solution VISTA. VISTA will provide visibility into all the physical aspects of data centre management including space, power and cooling.
Elsevier has data centers all over the world, with its largest sites in St. Louis, US The Netherlands, Singapore and the UK. Elsevier has deployed VISTA at three of its main data centers, enabling a total of 7,150 square feet of data center space to be visualised and managed. Elsevier plans eventually to roll out Aperture VISTA at its smaller data centres to improve capacity planning.
Robert Innes, global data center manager at Elsevier, said: “We were faced with the challenge of installing a solution that would enable us to have good capacity management. Before deploying Aperture VISTA, we were using spreadsheets and data tables to record trends and enable predictive reporting. This was inaccurate, time consuming and prone to error. By using Aperture VISTA we are able to centralise information in a single data base which enables us to maintain accurate and reliable configuration information while enabling the better utilisation of operational staff by freeing up valuable time.
Aperture VISTA enables Elsevier to analyse trends and to build up an accurate picture of data centre usage and resource availability. The accuracy of this data enables Elsevier to plan to mitigate future crises, reduce installation risks and minimise system and facility failure.
