A modular containerized data center has been deployed in Texas by an electric vehicle company expanding into the AI sector.

Nasdaq-listed Envirotech Vehicles (EVTV) this week announced the successful delivery, installation, and connection of a 40-foot AI data center container purpose-built for immersion-cooled computing.

The 500kW container is connected and energized. Though full details haven’t been shared, previous announcements suggest the container is located in Texas at an operating oil field site that produces on-site natural gas from underground reserves.

Jason Maddox, president of Envirotech Vehicles, said: "The successful deployment of the 40-foot immersion container is a significant achievement for EVTV. This milestone demonstrates our ability to execute complex infrastructure projects and positions this initiative as a scalable platform for AI compute. From here, our focus is on commissioning, validating performance, and expanding capacity in a disciplined manner."

The container was placed in partnership with Azio AI. The deployment is part of a wider program of self-owned behind-the-meter deployments.

Under the current structure, Azio AI supplies and sells compute hardware while Envirotech Vehicles owns the deployed compute assets.

"Having an immersion-ready container delivered, installed, and energized moves this project decisively from planning into execution. With the infrastructure fully in place, we can now focus on CPU integration and performance validation, which is where real value creation begins."

Envirotech Vehicles provides purpose-built electric vehicles, including vans, buses, and trucks. Last year, the firm announced plans to move into the drone sector. Plans to partner with Azio were announced late last year.

Azio AI provides enterprise GPU servers, AI compute clusters, modular data infrastructure solutions, and sovereign compute services. The company is a spin-out of Azio Corp, which provides keyboards and other personal computing hardware.

Envirotech Vehicles is in the process of acquiring Azio AI, having entered into a non-binding letter of intent to purchase the company through a merger acquisition. Azio AI would become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Envirotech Vehicles, valuing the acquired firm at $480 million. Azio’s Young would become CEO of Envirotech Vehicles.

"If completed, the contemplated transaction would align EVTV with a scaled AI infrastructure platform, an experienced technology leadership team, and a governance framework designed to support long‑term execution and shareholder value creation,” Elgin Tracy, chief operating officer of EVTV, said of the deal.
