Technology outsourcing provider EDS, has announced its intention to go green by improving its environmental performance in Australia and New Zealand.
A green agenda is increasingly helping businesses secure government contracts in the region. According to EDS Australia managing director, Chris Mitchell, the company is seeking to reduce its carbon emissions from its ANZAC operations by 25 per cent, or 1,000 tonnes, over the next three years.
A fund will be established to finance carbon offset programs, which will be used to finance reforestation and carbon sequestration programs. EDS has also appointed CO2 Australia to supply carbon offset programs in Australia, and plans to announce its New Zealand provider soon.
Additional projects, which are part of a regional, not global initiative, include EDS executives conducting business between offices on a newly developed teleconferencing system rather than flying to face-to-face meetings.
EDS has appointed energy consultancy Energetics to assess the Australian and New Zealand group's carbon footprint.
