Eaton has added 480V configurations to its ePDU power distribution product line up.
It said the new units are designed to help large high-density data centers become more efficient, meeting data center requirements for 480/277V custom hardware.
Eaton ePDU product manager Joe Korjanec said power distribution units at 480V are only usually available as a custom solution.
"Eaton is among the first in the industry to offer 480V as part of our ePDU catalogue offering in order to better meet the needs of serer manufacturers," Korjanec said.
"We’ve noticed a trend with many of the new cutting-edge data centers choosing a 480V power scheme and 277V customer power supplies that are extremely efficient."
He said the product line can also remove the need for step-down transformers in data centers in the US, where power enters the facility at 480V. It can also be used to power high efficiency 277V power supplies, which require 25% less current then a server running at 208V.
