Social utility site, Facebook has announced it has leased 10,000 square feet of space in a new Ashburn, Virginia facility built by DuPont Fabros Technology (DFT), as it expands its infrastructure.
According to Facebook engineer Jason Sobel, the company reached full capacity in its California data centers, having previously installed new servers to meet the rapid addition of users and applications.
Writing in his blog on the website, Sobel called the new data center a great first step towards keeping Facebook fast and reliable as the site grows. Going forward we have lots of exciting plans to expand our infrastructure and improve performance so no user ever has to sit around waiting for a page to load.'
