First phase of Australian data center operator E3 Networks' new facility in Sydney is due to come online in the beginning of December. The initial two-story build houses a total of about 8,400 square feet of data center floor, according to a report by the Australian news agency iTnews.

The data center, due to come online Dec. 7, is adjacent to another facility the company is in the process of developing. E3 plans to make that building available in June 2010, adding about 20,700 square feet of data center floor to the company's portfolio.

The site, which E3 shares with Hannah Print, is served by its own 36-MVA substation, allowing the data center provider to offer a power density of 7.2 kW per rack and customized pods with density of up to 30 kW per rack, iTnews reported.

The new facility will take advantage of free cooling and the company's CEO Jon Eaves was quoted as saying that Sydney was the best location in Australia for cooling water in water chillers without the use of electricity, allowing for about 270 days of free cooling per year.

Besides Sydney, E3 operates data centers under the brand name Pegasus Data Centres in Melbourne, Brisbane and San Francisco, Calif. The company's first data center (Brisbane) was established in 2006. In August, E3 said it had found a location for its next data center in Adelaide.
