Long-duration battery energy storage company Exowatt has launched a business arm focused on providing powered land and energy infrastructure for hyperscale data centers.
Dubbed ExoRise, the company claims the new unit will bring together land, power, and Exowatt’s novel solar and battery technology to deliver data centers with reliable power at all hours.
“Hyperscalers should not have to piece together land, power, and infrastructure on their own,” said Hannan Happi, CEO of Exowatt. “ExoRise delivers everything together so customers can focus on compute while we handle the power.”
The P3 system is a modular, dispatchable solar solution that captures solar energy and stores it as heat within a long-duration thermal battery. The heat is subsequently converted into electricity on demand. A modular solution, the P3 system is designed to fit the space of a standard 40-foot shipping container.
The ExoRise business arm will focus on delivering behind-the-meter and off-grid deployment on remote land, which the company says is aimed at avoiding burdening ratepayers with increased electricity costs.
Nic Bustamante, chief data center officer at Exowatt, has been tapped to lead the unit. “The growth of AI is colliding with real limits on grid capacity,” said Bustamante. “ExoRise is designed to solve that problem by delivering dependable power at the speed AI requires. We’re not just solving a business problem–we’re enabling the future of American AI leadership.”
The first pilot project is expected to be operational by the end of 2026, serving as a launch pad for the company’s reported 90+GWh of customer backlog.
The company raised $70 million as part of its Series A funding round last year and has gained backing from noted angel investors such as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
