Data center real estate investment trust Digital Realty Trust is building out more space in London, its earnings report revealed this week.
It said it acquired 1300,000 sq ft of space on 26 July for £12.9m in the London area.
The site has 8MW of It capacity and can support the development of five 1440kW turn-key data
center PODs (performance optimized data centers).
Digital Realty Trust has been aggressively expanding its data center presence around the world in the last six months.
In April it completed the acquisition of 38.8 acres for data center development at a campus in Ashburn, Virginia, US for US$17.3m.
In June it also acquired a noncontrolling ownership interest in Datacenter Park Dallas for US$53.2m. The data center park has 797,000 sq ft of data center space and DRT now has a controlling stake in the company.
DRT also completed its acquisition of AU$10.1m site in Sydney, Australia, adding an additional 200,000 sq ft of space to its portfolio and takes DRT into 29 markets around the world.
Construction of this site will begin this year.
Overall, DRT said its total assets grew by about US$5.7bn by the 30 June 2011, up from US$5.5bn at the end of March 2011. It total debt, however, stood at US$3.1bn at the end of June.
Its net income for the quarter ending 30 June stood at US$38.2m.
DRT signed leases over the last quarter for 289,000 sq ft of space at an average rental rate of about US$143 per sq ft.
