Digital Realty Trust (DRT) has claimed a first in the US datacenter market with an exclusive supply deal with Foster Fuels.

The datacenter operating giant has signed Foster Fuels for emergency power generator fuel delivery at any of its US turn-key datacenter facilities. DRT and its customers can also set up pre-staging of generator fuel to support uninterrupted delivery in disaster situations with complex logistics.

Ted Martin, vice president of technical operations at DRT, said:"We have worked with Foster Fuels to supply our own fuel oil needs, and now this service is available to our customers to support their disaster operations plans. We are proud to be the first company in the datacenter industry to offer this kind of service. Foster Fuels has the resources, operations and protocols to support the specific needs of datacenter customers.

Under the deal DRT customers at any of its US turn-key datacenter facilities can access emergency fuel within 24 hours.

Both firms are exploring the possibility of making this available to customers at all DRT facilities in the near future.

Foster Fuels has operated since 1921.
