Turn-key data center provider Digital Realty Trust commenced leases of about 90,000 square feet of data center space in the third fiscal quarter ending Sept. 30 and signed leases on about 67,000 square feet more, according to a company statement.
"The continued demand for our turn-key data center product has produced strong leasing results in the third quarter," DRT CEO Michael Foust said in a statement. "On a year-to-date basis, the leases that have commenced will contribute approximately $54.1 million of incremental revenue recognized in 2009. Including the backlog of leases signed that are scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2009, we are on track to meet our leasing estimates for the year."
Besides data center space, DRT commenced leases on 11,000 square feet of "non-technical" space during the quarter and signed leases on 5,000 square feet of "powered base building" space and 22,000 square feet of non-technical space. DRT's powered base buildings include power infrastructure, fiber access and necessary planning permits for clients to build out and operate their own data centers.
Leases of turn-key data center space DRT commenced during the quarter came at an average annual rate of $187 per square foot. Average rate for leases of comparable space signed was $192 per square foot.
As of Sept. 30, DRT has commenced leases of about 666,000 square feet of space during the current fiscal year, including about 317,000 square feet of turn-key data center space, 174,000 square feet of powered base building space and 176,000 square feet of non-technical space.
