Colo giant Digital Realty will establish its first data center in Ghana.
The company announced on October 31 that it is set to launch a data center located in the country’s capital, Accra. It will be situated on Bank Street and Prof. Atta Mills High Street, which is near the Achimota Forest Reserve.
Digital Realty in Ghana’s managing director, Joseph Koranteng, said: “Enterprises no longer have to choose between compliance and performance.”
The 1,100 sqm (11,840 sq ft) ACR2 data center will deliver colo services with 1.7MW of installed IT capacity.
Information about the facility’s development timeline was not disclosed.
Digital Realty’s presence in Africa includes Nigeria, Kenya, Mozambique, and South Africa. So far, the company has invested more than $2 billion in the continent.
The company also recently appointed former private equity fund manager Marcel Louw as its regional lead for its Africa division.
Ghana is not a prominent data center market. Data Center Map lists five data centers in the area around Accra. Existing operators in the country include Equinix, Onix, and PAIX.
