Data center wholesaler Digital Realty Trust is expanding its facility in Chandler, Arizona. The company is adding about 226,000 sq ft of rentable data center space and 13MW of power at the site.
The data center at 2121 S. Price Rd. was one of the five properties Digital bought in July of last year from the developer Rockwood Capital. The portfolio was known as 365 Main, named after the company that operated the facilities.
The existing facility totals more than 293,000 sq ft and is nearly 100% occupied. Digital expects to have more than 31MW total at the facility, once the expansion is complete.
The expansion's design "wraps around the current building" and the new space will use existing infrastructure to support both the current facility and the new space.
Brent Behrman, senior VP of global sales at Digital, said Phoenix was a significant market for data center providers, where demand is driven by good fiber connectivity, competitive electricity rates and a relatively disaster-free area. The local utility delivering power to the facility is Salt River Project.
"Phoenix is a very important market for Digital Realty Trust," Behrman added. "Our investment in this property underscores our commitment to the Phoenix area, where we have established a substantial operating platform for supporting our customers in Arizona."
