Digital Realty Trust has made its turnkey data center product more flexible. Instead of giving a customer a data center built to a canned design, the company is now offering customers the ability to mix and match different components to suit their needs.
Options include a variety of electrical-system redundancy levels, different cooling options, such as waterside-economized or airside-economized, and power-density choices. This adds to Digital’s arsenal of offerings something that seems to be somewhere between its turn-key pod product and build-to-suit.
Digital’s CTO Jim Smith, said the offering, called Turn-Key Flex, was the next stage of evolution of the turn-key product. Now, “we are able to provide customers with even more options, giving them a high degree of control over how their data center is configured during the design and construction phases,” Smith said.
This is another way for Digital, one of the world’s largest wholesale data center companies, to capitalize on the rising demand for data center outsourcing by enterprises. “"We have found this to be particularly important for enterprise customers who have traditionally built their own data centers and are now migrating towards an outsourced solution with a proven data center provider,” Smith added.
Digital’s turn-key pods are usually ready for move-in in 26 weeks or less. Each one has metered power and gives its tenant dedicated power and cooling infrastructure.
