Digital Realty Trust has completed a massive purpose-built data center building in the Boston market designed to accommodate five of the company's turn-key all-in-one data centers.
Digital is going after managed service providers, technology services, biotechnology companies, universities, hospitals and other healthcare organizations in the Boston market looking for wholesale and colocation data center options in their home state. The company is holding a grand opening of the facility, located in Needham, Massachusetts, this Wednesday.
David Caron, senior VP of portfolio management at Digital, said the company had already started leasing space in the new building. “The addition of this world-class data center to Digital Realty's portfolio in Massachusetts will help ensure local businesses have access to the most efficient data center space available, regardless of their size,” he said.
Located 12 miles outside of Boston, the three-story 130,000 sq ft building has access to 10MW of utility power. The overall design incorporates outside-air economization, which translates to approximately 6,000 hours of free cooling per year.
The building is part of a data center campus that includes 128 First Ave. – home to many production data center environments serving the healthcare, insurance, financial and technology verticals. The two facilities total nearly 450,000 sq ft with over 200,000 sq ft of raised floor.
