Delta Air Lines is set to roll out free WiFi for its passengers as soon as early next year.

According to the Wall Street Journal, passengers will be able to access wireless Internet on a select amount of Delta's fleet initially.

Citing people familiar with the matter, the WSJ noted that the airline is already in the process of testing WiFi infrastructure, with “various offerings to select customers on select routes.”

WiFi on planes is still very much in its infant stages, with only a number of airlines providing in-flight WiFi services, although usually for a fee.

Delta provided free WiFi on some of its domestic flights in 2019, before partnering with satellite broadband provider Viasat for a $5 flat fee on some of its Viasat-enabled planes.

To access the free WiFi Delta passengers will need to enter their SkyMiles loyalty number, according to sources that spoke to the WSJ.
