Dell announced earlier this week it will settle the lawsuit brought against it by the US Securities and Exchange Commission, which alleged that the IT vendor had engaged in fraudulent accounting practices that violated some federal securities laws and SEC rules between 2001 and 2006. The charges included some related to Dell's commercial relationship with Intel Corp.

The company will pay $100m to settle the suit and its Chairman and CEO Michael Dell will pay an additional $4m penalty, although his settlement only involves allegations regarding dealings with Intel and excludes accounting fraud charges being settled by his company.

Dell, the company, has also agreed to adjust its accounting process, which includes getting an independent consultant, with aim to improve disclosure processes, practices and controls, according to a news release.

The company and its CEO entered into the settlement agreement without admitting or denying the regulators' allegations.
