Dell launched a group of cloud services designed specifically for US government agencies Tuesday. It is built to pass the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) approval process and to satisfy the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) 800-53 criteria.
There is also a dedicated cloud built to satisfy Federal Information Security Act (FISMA) and the Department of Defense Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process (DIACAP) requirements.
Thom Rubel, VP of IDC Government Insights, said, “ At a time when government agencies are working to consolidate information technology systems, and even full data centers, public sector organizations also are beginning a series of unprecedented technology shifts. All of this has prompted many forward-thinking government organizations to embark on a new strategy that emphasizes cloud and mobile solutions, plus improved enterprise systems for data sharing and integration to help improve the efficiency of their IT and IT infrastructures and optimize their budgets.”
Dell Cloud for US Government offers both single and multi-tenant environments. Options include Infrastructure- , Platform- , and Software-as-a-Service and an on-premise solution.
Dell also provides a compliance framework for agencies to manage multiple ATOs and security requirements.
The FedRAMP-grade multi-tenant cloud allows flexible provisioning as either private, single, dedicated cloud or as a multi-tenant cloud. Options include a Dell-hosted data center or organization-designated site.
The FISMA/DIACAP cloud leverages the same features, functionality and security controls as the FedRAMP ATO multi-tenant cloud but with a dedicated infrastructure.
Dell is also selling a reference architecture for its government-cloud infrastructure.
