Australian data center operator DCI has launched a new facility in Adelaide, South Australia.
Launched this week, Adelaide 02 (ADL02) is a 4MW purpose-built facility located along Findon Road at Kidman Park, next to DCI’s first center, Adelaide 01 (ADL01).
With AU$70 million (US$45.4m) investment, the new data center increases the campus’ capacity to 5.4MW total IT Load.
DCI president and chief development officer, Shane Ross, said: “The opening of ADL02 underscores our commitment to enhancing the reliability and security of South Australia’s digital infrastructure. This state-of-the-art facility will support the state’s economic growth and technological advancement through the provision of secure data housing for key industry players in South Australia.”
Announced in May 2021, the facility was originally due to launch in 2022.
The company has acquired land for a third Adelaide facility, at the Technology Park in Mawson Lakes.
Acquired by Brookfield in 2019, DCI now has more than 10 data center sites with 130MW of IT capacity in development across the APAC region including in Sydney, Adelaide, and Canberra in Australia; Auckland, New Zealand; and Seoul, South Korea.
South Australia MP Stephen Mullighan was in attendence at the launch ceremony. He said: "This is a world-class facility and allows customers to keep their data in the state, which in turn supports a thriving digital infrastructure ecosystem right here at home,” he said.
A 2018 report suggests the Kidman Park site - including what is now DCI's ADL01 facility at 340 Findom Road - was operated for a period by Bank SA. The property was then leased as a data center to a number of private companies including Siemens, Lotteries Commission of SA, IBM Australia, and Sungard Availability Services.
