Project Olympus is over - it’s time for Project Cerberus, says Kushagra Vaid
In this interview Kushagra Vaid, general manager for Azure Hardware Infrastructure at Microsoft, talks about the successor to Project Olympus, an open source hardware initiative launched by the company a year ago.
Olympus became a success: the complete blueprints have been published online, while the servers have been deployed in Microsoft’s data centers and are now available to buy from vendors like Wiwynn and Zt Systems. Related data center equipment is also coming along nicely.
The next step for Microsoft’s hardware ambitions is Project Cerberus - an open source security chip that could protect its cloud servers and networking equipment from “supply chain attacks” - when hardware is tampered with during manufacturing.
