Nearly all respondents to FieldView’s DCIM (data center infrastructure management) survey said they would like to see data from all data center locations under their management pooled into a single repository.

More than half of the data center managers and C-level executives surveyed said they were overseeing three or more data centers. About 50% of this group said they were using multiple versions of building management, automation and energy management systems to manage the facilities.

FieldView, a DCIM software vendor, revealed results of its survey earlier this week at the DatacenterDynamics conference in Toronto.

John Consoli, VP of sales and marketing at FieldView, said the survey validated the company’s sense of the need for advanced DCIM tools.

“This data center survey helps validate FieldView Solutions’ belief that most data center managers are seeking new tools that can provide real-time data views across multiple business zones,” Consoli said.

FieldVidew’s own solution is a browser-based software platform designed to manage the data center environment at multiple sites.

Analysts predict that the DCIM software market will grow from US$245m in revenue in 2010 to about $1.3bn in 2015. This is an estimate by 451 Research, a market research group that focuses a lot of its work in the data center space.

Examples of companies playing in the DCIM market other than FieldView include Emerson, Schneider, nlyte, SynapSense, IO, Modius and many others. When researching the market, 451 analysts identified about 40 companies whose products fit in the firm’s definition of DCIM.
