IntelliBatt, provider of monitoring systems and services for data center uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and UPS batteries has raised US$22m in equity from a group of investors led by Columbia Capital and appointed new executive leadership at the top.

Announcing the news at the DatacenterDynamics Converged conference in San Francisco Tuesday, the company said it will use the new capital to fund its growth initiatives and expansion of its product line.

Columbia, the main investor behind the latest financing round, backed the appointment of Tom Barton as IntelliBatt’s new CEO and Todd Ford its new co-CEO and COO. Both Barton and Ford are former Rackable Systems (now SGI) executives.

Barton used to be CEO at Rackable and Ford was president at the boutique high-end IT hardware vendor.

Barton is replacing one of IntelliBatt’s two co-founders Steve Cotton in the CEO chair. Cotton is taking on the role of executive chair.

The second co-founder Mike Brinck will continue as president.

“Together with the existing strong management team and the global reach of our investors, we see a winning combination to aggressively grow the company through international expansion and ongoing product development,” Barton said.

IntelliBatt counts companies like Charles Schwab, Equinix, Digital Realty Trust and Savvis among its clients. In June, the company announced a deal with RagingWire to provide monitoring system for the data center provider’s Ashburn, Virginia, facility.
