The company added sensors to monitor data center temperature and cut its energy bill by 5 percent

In the video above Ken Jackson, data center engineer at HPE, explains how Hewlett Packard Enterprise managed to improve one of its data centers and considerably lower its energy costs.

In the past, the facility had one temperature sensor per server room, and temperature was controlled by a single central CRAC unit.

In order to make the data center more efficient, it was broken into multiple zones and every third rack was equipped with a temperature sensor. Gathering large amounts of thermal data and tweaking the temperature for individual CRACs has enabled HPE to better keep its SLAs and save about $30,000 per month on the electricity bill alone.
