US operator DC Blox is planning to build a data center and cable landing station (CLS) on Florida’s east coast.

Flagler Live reports DC Blox is planning a data center and CLS development in Palm Coast, between Orlando and Jacksonville.

Florida Landmark Communities reportedly sold a 34-acre tract of land in Palm Coast’s Town Center, on the west side of Town Center Boulevard and just south of Royal Palms Parkway, to DC Box for $3.5 million last year.

DC Blox is aiming to develop a data center under the name Project Orchid. Specifications about the facility have not been shared, but the CLS could reportedly host up to eight cables.

“It is a state-qualified economic development project we are required to keep confidential,” a city spokesperson told the publication.

FL reports the Flagler Beach City Commission is opposed to granting one of the two easements DC Blox is seeking in the city, because it would all but make development impossible on one of its prime beachside parcels.

Subsea cables currently land in Jacksonville, as well as further south at Vero Beach. DC Blox’s proposed facility would be the nearest landing point to Orlando. Most cables in Florida land around Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

DC Blox has Orlando listed as a future data center location on its website. The company doesn’t currently have any data centers in Florida.

The company recently launched a CLS in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Three of the five available cable slots at the facility have already been reserved – two for Google and one for Meta. It was the first CLS in South Carolina.

DC Blox operates facilities at locations across Birmingham and Huntsville, Alabama; and Chattanooga, Tennessee, It is planning another facility in High Point, North Carolina, and outside Atlanta, Georgia. The company recently announced plans for a new 45MW data center campus in South Carolina's Berkeley County.
